The volcanoes that were formed from the subduction in the Philippines gradually erupted. They ended up growing to a point where they rose above the surface of the ocean and that is where the Philippine Islands came from.

The subduction process is not gentle. It created intense friction from the plates colliding, and earthquakes are produced.

The plate that is pushed down can also create a deep trench in the ocean's floor. There is one near the Philippines called the Manila Trench.
